 Kimo's Story

I was a chubby little kid.  Even though my mother cooked with natural foods and whole grains, I found my ways to eat poorly.  Sneaking out of the house to scurry to the corner store, I would stock up on chips, candy, pop and ice cream.  A bad habit that stuck even into my late teen years.  More of a comfort than any kind of hunger.

I was up to about 215 lbs at the age of 14.  Through diet and exercise I got down to 145 lbs by my first year in high school.  Feeling invincible I started eating whatever I wanted again.  I started smoking cigarettes and drinking.  The next four years were spent bouncing between crash diets and binge eating.  I often had a very depressing outlook and a feeling of no control.

At the age of 20 I decided to quit smoking and respect myself.  The attempts lasted about a year until I finally quit successfully.  I decided to get into shape and take care of my body.  I worked out five days a week and went from my top weight of 230 lbs to 180 lbs.  After two years I ran my first 50 mile race called Dances with Dirt.

At the age of 22 I started school at The National Personal Training Institute.  I wanted to make a living doing and teaching what I loved. It was a hands-on experience teaching everything from anatomy and program design to best business practices.

I started at a large gym facility directly after graduation.  I found it to be intimidating.  The people that needed the most help seemed too embarrassed to ask.  It was as if they felt everyone was laughing if they did anything wrong.  I ended up leaving and starting my own business.  I wanted a place that would be more personal and private.  With the advice of an old classmate I started my business, with random luck I found a location to work from and with what money I had to spare I got a great deal on gym equipment.

My clients amaze me every day and I keep studying new ways to keep them fit and interested.  It is not always easy keeping up with a healthy lifestyle, but it is always worth it.  You do have control, and it is very possible to change.  It just takes a little bit of coaching, motivation and a lot of respect for yourself.
